  • What We Believe | Hillcrest Christian Church McKinney | McKinney

OUR BELIEFS About God There is one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and each possesses all of the attributes of God. God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it. Only God is truly good and is the source of all comfort. God is light and in Him, there is no darkness. God is love. Matthew 3.16-17 ; Luke 18:19 ; John 14.9-10 ; 2nd Corinthians 1:3 ; 1st John 4:8; Deuteronomy 6.4-6 About Jesus Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He created all things. He existed before anything else and he holds all creation together. He is the head of the church, the Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified, buried, and physically raised from the dead. Salvation is through Jesus, for all who believe. He is the only way man may have an eternal relationship with God. Luke 1.32-35 ; John 3.16 ; John 14:6 ; Acts 4:10-12 ; 1 Corinthians 15.3-4 ; Colossians‬ ‭1:15-20 ; Hebrews 4:14,15 About The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is One with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit convicts a believer of sin and draws all man towards God. The Holy Spirit lives within every baptized believer to guide them, intercede to the Father for them, and offer peace in a broken world. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. 1 Corinthians 3.16 ; Acts 2.38 ; John 16.8; Galatians 5:22,23 About Mankind God created mankind in His image to live in a loving and personal relationship with Him. However, through one act of disobedience by the first of mankind, sin separated all people from their relationship with God. No one is righteous, for all have sinned and the consequence of sin is death and eternal judgment. Jesus is the only mediator between God and mankind. Genesis 1.26 ; Genesis 3 ; Ecclesiastes 7:20 ; Isaiah 59:1,2 ; Romans 1:18-20 ; Romans 3:23 ; Romans 5:12-19 ; Romans 7:8-11 ; John 14.6; 1 Timothy 2:5 About Salvation Because of God's love for us, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to give us eternal life. Salvation is offered to us by the grace of God, not by works. This is made possible only by the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Salvation is found only through Jesus Christ. Jesus tells us that those who believe and are baptized will be saved. We believe that salvation comes by faith, repentance, confession,, and baptism by immersion into the Holy Trinity. John 3:16 ; John 1:12,13 ; Acts 4:12 ; Ephesians 2::4-9 ; Mark 16:15,16 ; Acts 2:38 ; Galatians 3:26-29 ; Romans 10:9 , 1 Peter 3:21 ; Romans 6:3-10 About The Church The Church was established by Jesus Christ. It will exist for all time and will not be conquered. The church is not a place to gather, rather it is the gathering of Christ's people. Those who believe and are baptized are added to Christ's church. Members of Christ's church should meet together as one body for prayer, fellowship, teaching, and sharing in the Lord's Supper. Matthew 16.18 ; Acts 2:40-42; Romans 10:12 ; Ephesians 1:21-23 ; 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 About Baptism Baptism is a command from Christ for all believers. The word "baptism” comes from the Greek word baptízō , which means “to submerge, dip under, immerse.” Thus, baptism is to be immersed underwater. We are baptized into the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit for the sake of righteousness. It unites us with Christ’s death and resurrection to give us a new life in Him. In baptism, we receive the Holy Spirit and our sins are placed on the cross. It saves us through the resurrection of Christ. Faith, confession, and repentance are necessary before being baptized. Matthew 3:13-16 ; Matthew 28:18-20 ; Mark 16:15,16 ; Acts 2:38-40 ; Acts 16:30-33; Acts 19:1-5 ; Acts 18:8 ; Acts 22:16 ; Romans 6:3-11 ; Galatians 3:26-29 ; Ephesians 4:4-6 ; Colossians 2:11-14 ; 1st Peter 3:21,22 About The Lord's Supper Jesus referred to His body as the bread of life. His body and the blood are the atoning sacrifice to take away our sins and give us eternal life. On the night before Christ was crucified, He told His disciples to eat bread and drink wine in remembrance of Him because they represent His body and blood. When we eat and drink at the Lord’s Table, we use crackers and juice for these emblems. It should be eaten when we gather as a church body to worship, with thanksgiving and reverence in a worthy manner. Matthew 26:26-28 ; Mark 14:22-24 ; Luke 22:19,20 ; 1st Corinthians 10:16,17 ; 1st Corinthians 11:26-29

  • Core Values | Hillcrest Christian Church Mckinney | Mckinney

CORE VALUES GOD'S WORD The Bible is God’s way of conversing with man. Although forty authors penned sixty-six “books” in the Bible, they were inspired to do so by God Himself. We believe the Bible to be inspired and to provide all knowledge necessary for genuine life. Preaching and teaching at Hillcrest is from the Bible. COMMUNITY We exist to be in relationship – first with God and then with one another. The ultimate picture of community is the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Living apart from God is impossible. Secondly, man was made to exist with one another. One cannot be the person God desires them to be without another. At Hillcrest, we value opportunities to establish community with God and with each other. People doing life together is important! DISCIPLESHIP Jesus Christ told us to become followers and then encourage others to be followers. Discipleship is a life-long journey toward becoming like Jesus Christ. As Christ served those around Him, we value opportunities to do the same. Hillcrest provides age-appropriate possibilities for spiritual growth.
